The Washington Heights Invitational Summer Basketball Tournament is powered by Jaybie’s Sports Academy, a 501© 3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing recreational activity for New York City youth. Our objective is to offer our community youth the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the game, teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-confidence. Our ultimate goal is to make available an environment where kids can enjoy the game of basketball.
Founders
Luis Guzman & Carlos Guzman
#WHIBBALL is led by Luis Guzman, former Temple University NCAA basketball player, overseas professional basketball player, and current graduate student at Temple University, along with his father, Carlos Guzman, who have been providing the community with a fun, healthy and safe alternative through sports such as baseball and basketball since 2003 through Jaybie’s Sports Academy, a 501©3 non-profit organization. The Legacy to promote wellness, sports education, and leadership is being passed down with hopes to keep the Washington Height Invitational tournament part of the community.
Over the last 20 years Jose Valdez has become an expert in developing youth skills for leadership by creating opportunities for socialization and friendships in a safe, fun environments. His Passion has helped educate the youths throughout the Washington heights community. Jose demonstrates great sportsmanship and expertise in organizing tournaments and leagues, and manages events. Their experiencing over the last 20 years has help Jose and Carlos mold and shape inner city children into great community leaders by providing positive, structured outlets in a safe environment. #WHIBBALL #JAYBIESPORTS ……

Each year we try to make the “Washington Heights Invitational Summer Youth Basketball”, presented by Jaybie’s Sports Academy, a tournament to primarily benefit youth through the sport of basketball, bigger and better. This past summer was no different, we hosted 6 divisions, totaling 70 teams, including some of the top athletes in the tri-state area and becoming a well-recognized basketball tournament in New York
We provided a safe environment which included referees, DJs, an announcer at every game, beverages from sponsors like Muscle Milk and AguaBrand, first and second place trophies for all 6 of our divisions and competition. Our goal has always been to provide learning fundamentals of the game in addition to valuable life skills including teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-confidence, and we were successful this summer and are looking for continued support and success in the summer of 2019.

WHY WHIBBALL?
It’s all about the youth and the next generation. The tournament provides a great platform to teach these kids the game and gives them an opportunity to get out and have some fun!
This is my first year at this tournament and this is the best tournament in New York City!
